Nestled in a serene residential area of Hamilton, Macassa Lodge is a treasured long-term care facility that offers not only 270 beds in various accommodations – private, semi-private, and two-person rooms – but also a vital Adult Day Program for seniors. As a professional commercial caulking company, we recently had the privilege of improving the thermal seal, preventing leaks and enhancing the appearance of this unique building by removing and replacing caulking in Wings A and E, addressing the exterior caulking around windows and doors.

One Task, Two Surfaces: Removing Caulking from Brick Masonry and Stucco

The Macassa Lodge features both brick masonry and stucco, providing our team with an opportunity to showcase our expertise in handling diverse materials effectively. The brick masonry allowed for a straightforward removal and replacement of the caulking, as it does not crumble during the process. This meant we could efficiently complete the caulking work on the brick surfaces before addressing the more intricate task of removing the existing caulking from the stucco, which requires a careful approach to avoid damaging the surrounding material.

With the stucco areas, we wanted to ensure a strong bond so we capped over certain areas, with three-point adhesion effectively securing the caulking in place. This method not only saves costs for our client but also adds an extra layer of security, ensuring long-lasting results.

Throughout the project, we remained mindful of the lodge’s residents and staff, implementing a life line from the sloped metal roof for access with a ladder. This careful planning allowed us to avoid obstructing the courtyard and parking spaces with machinery, where possible.
